Early this morning, I got up early with my two sharpened pencils, my TI-83 calculator, my id, and my admission ticket to take what I call the "nicer" brother of the dreaded SAT. If you didn't know, the ACT scores as well as the SAT scores are transferable meaning that what you get on the ACT can be transferred into a score rubric of SAT which is out of 2400. This is great news because many of you like myself might perform better on the ACT but might not have taken it because you didn't know that the scores were almost equivalent.
Now that ACT has grabbed your attention you might be wondering what the difference is between the two tests. Well, College Board briefly states that "The ACT is an achievement test, measuring what a student has learned in school. The SAT is more of an aptitude test, testing reasoning and verbal abilities. The ACT has up to 5 components: English, Mathematics, Reading, Science, and an optional Writing Test. The SAT has only 3 components: Critical Reasoning, Mathematics, and a required Writing Test. The SAT has a correction for guessing. That is, they take off for wrong answers. The ACT is scored based on the number of correct answers with no penalty for guessing".
For me personally, I find the ACT much more straightforward than the SAT and the fact that you're not penalized for guessing is a plus too. So, if you are planning on taking the ACT instead of the SAT, you can go online to http://www.actstudent.org/index.html and register there.
