Every school year, fall and spring are the two most stressful periods of the year because of the majority of testing such as PSAT, ACT, SAT, AP testing, and as well as your finals for your classes are given. However, with a little preparation and some helpful studying tips you can be successful during these times. For this entry, I will be mainly focusing on college entrance exams such as the ACT and the SAT. But bear in mind that every student is different so choose what works best for you.
- Practice, Practice, and Practice some more with Practice Test. After all, practice makes perfect. In fact, often times the SAT as well as the ACT is a test that measures how well you can take the test. In other words, familiarize yourself with the tests, the format, the timing, and I can guarantee that doing just that will boost your score. Also, one of the great things about both of these tests is that they provide daily questions that will help you prepare. Remember, don't try to tackle the entire test in one night but instead take it step by step.
- While many can study by themselves, few of us need an extra boost. So, don't be afraid to find a private tutor or even free classes that are offered at your school. There are just so many resources out there that can help you, all you need to do is put in the effort and find them. In fact, during the fall, Fairfax Branch Library will be having SAT PREP classes where Princeton will come and give workshops. So, next time you stop by the library don't forget to sign up!
- Lastly, one of the best advice that was given to me when I was studying for my testing was to attack your weaknesses. Take a practice test and find out where you are lacking and from there make a plan on improving. After all, you're only strong as your weakest link.
