Quick Reminder to Students : TDAP Shot

This past summer many students entering 7th through 12th grades received a letter stating that a TDAP shot is now required to go to school for this coming year. Although many have taken the shot already few barely know what the TDAP shot is about. The TDAP shot is generally given to children and teenagers as a vaccine to protect from 3 main infections, the tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis. Each of these infections can be quite fatal and contagious since it attacks the respiratory system. Therefore a tdap shot is now required to protect you, your community, and your school. So before you go to school, make sure to check in with your doctor to make sure that you are protected.

Places that are offering TDAP shots include your local grocery store such as Walgreens and CVS or your local health clinic.

Quick add on to "Its a Sneaker Thing" : What are you planning on wearing to school this fall?

Although I am not a sneakerhead, I still enjoy a fresh pair of kicks and for this new school year I plan to wear a pair of Janoskis. Inspired by boat shoes, the Stefan Janoskis are popular for skateboarding but it has also become a favorite for casual wear. Share your favorite pair of sneakers or what you are planning on wearing for this school year down below in the comments.

Youth Movement : It's a Sneaker Thing

With school right around the corner, anxious students around the world are beginning their back to school shopping. Among the long list of things to buy are often times a new pair of sneakers. For many of us a new pair of Chuck Taylors or Vans are good enough to complete the school outfit for the year. However, for many others, sneaker shopping takes on a whole new level.Known as "sneakerheads", sneakers for them are more than footwear but rather a beautiful art form. In fact, many dedicated sneakerheads first become part of this remarkable movement because they appreciate the design and innovation of their kicks like many of their peers. When the movement first started, the community was rather small but in recent years the number of sneakerheads have skyrocketed and each community has adapted their own personality by dedicating their efforts to only certain brands such as Jordans. However, even with the growing number of communities, it is still hard for sneakerheads to fully connect with each other and share their own unique collection. Fortunately, Footlocker has launched a new campaign called "Its a Sneaker Thing" and with this campaign Footlocker hopes to create one large sneaker community where young sneakerheads can find the newest trends and share their favorite kicks. So, if you are a sneakerhead or want to become a sneakerhead go check out the newest sneakerhead community @ http://www.footlocker.eu/itsasneakerthing/ .

Video : NBA stars show out @ Pan Pacific Park

One of the great things about the Fairfax Branch Library is that it is located in the middle of an affluent neighborhood where residents have access to the wonderful Grove or even have a bbq at Pan Pacific Park. So, it is not surprising to see many famous celebrities to show up in the area. In this case, current NBA stars JaVale McGee and Nick Young from the Washington Wizards were spotted at the local gym at Pan Pacific Park throwing down some mean dunks!

Our Deepest Fear

One of my favorite

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.
