Internship Opportunity for Juniors and Seniors

If you are looking for an incredible opportunity to deepen your community service experience, please consider applying for the Bank of America Student Leaders Program which includes an all-expense paid Student Leadership Summit in Washington, D.C. in July.  The deadline is January 25, 2013.

The program helps students gain a greater understanding of how nonprofits create an impact in the community and helps develop the next generation of community leaders through two components:

· A summer eight-week paid internship with a nonprofit organization selected by the bank. This internship is designed to provide opportunities for the students to develop and apply leadership skills through hands-on work experience, while raising their awareness of community issues addressed by their Host Organization.

· The week-long, all-expense paid Student Leadership Summit in Washington, D.C. from July 8-12, 2013. Conducted in partnership with the Close Up Foundation, the Summit introduces students to aspects of civic, social and business leadership and provides them with knowledge and skills they will use throughout their life to create positive community change.

Please contact B of A directly at desk_of_gla_leadership_team@bankofamerica.com if you have any further questions.

Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor

I read this book earlier during the summer and have been meaning to recommend it..  It's an urban fantasy about a seventeen-year-old blue-haired girl named Karou who leads a dual life in dual worlds and doesn't really know who she is.  The only "family" she has ever known are demon-like creatures who she helps collect teeth for reasons unknown to her.  When not collecting teeth she spends time with her only friend and attends art school.  Her life comes to a complete halt when she and a warrior angel trying to put an end to the teeth trade and the creatures who traffic them cross paths.  Even though the angel should kill her, he cannot bring himself to do it for reasons he cannot understand at first but become clearer to him as the story unfolds. What follows is a fascinating tale of forbidden love in a stunningly imaginative world.
